Because of Jesus I Am...Sample

Hey! You're a real piece of work!

Verse - “For we are his creative work, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared beforehand so we can do them.” (Ephesians 2:10)

Think - The title for our devotion today is often used in a sarcastic or even derogatory manner. When we call someone a “piece of work,” we usually aren’t saying it as a compliment. When Paul writes to the people gathered as the church in the city of Ephesus, he refers to them as God’s creative work. We, the church, are a real piece of work! We exist because of Jesus’ work, created in Him, as Paul says, for good works.

We are often quick to acknowledge the creative artistry of God in nature. How often have we considered God’s creativity on display in His design and makeup of the church? What wonders to fathom, what beauty to behold! In Christ, God has called out people from all over the world, every nation, language, and people group. We live in vastly different environments, operating under diverse systems of government. Together we stand, united in the right that we have been gifted in Jesus to be called the daughters and sons of God. A family brought together as one body created in Christ Jesus, called for good purposes, prepared beforehand so that we can do them.

Apply - What has God prepared in advance for us to do? The opportunities to walk in love and goodness are plentiful. To walk this way is to live differently in the world where God planted us - a world in which He has purposefully placed us as one of His own vessels. Just think, the God of all creation formed me, called me, and planted me with purpose in the world I inhabit right now. How does the artistry of your daily life reflect and proclaim the good news of Jesus?

Pray- Father, great are your handiworks! As the result of your creative work, our desire is to reflect your goodness and beauty back into the world. You have formed us, as you have known us, perfectly and completely. Help us walk in the good ways you have prepared in advance. We trust you, and we love you. Amen.
