Remembered for Good: 5 Qualities of a Man

DAY 2 OF 6

Prisca and Aquila

In the book of Romans, the apostle Paul sends his greetings to various individuals and couples who have been instrumental in his ministry. One such couple is Prisca and Aquila, who demonstrated remarkable faithfulness to God’s family and their own. Their example serves as a reminder for us today to prioritize faithfulness in our relationships and responsibilities. As men we must embody this faithfulness and do it to the glory of God.

Prisca and Aquila were devoted co-workers in Christ Jesus. Their commitment to the family of God extended beyond attending church services. They opened their home to believers, establishing house churches wherever they went. They understood that ministry starts at home, and they faithfully welcomed others into their lives. Their unwavering dedication made them cherished by Paul and countless Gentile churches.

In addition to their service in God’s family, Prisca and Aquila demonstrated faithfulness within their household. Research from the Harvard School of Public Health indicates that couples who regularly attend church together reduce their risk of divorce by an astounding 47%. Faithfulness within the family profoundly impacts future generations, and parents have a unique opportunity to shape their children’s lives positively.

Prisca and Aquila’s example extends beyond traditional family units. Single adults are encouraged to be faithful to their family of origin, showing kindness and love to parents, siblings, and extended relatives. This practice prepares them for their future families, should God bless them that way. Regardless of marital status, faithfulness within the broader family context fosters healthy relationships and a culture of love.

Today, men are often portrayed between extremes: either as foolish and weak or aggressive and domineering. However, there is a balance to be found in following the example of Jesus Christ. He embodied both a lion’s strength and a lamb’s gentleness. Men are called to be strong, bold, and courageous yet tempered with kindness and gentleness. By modeling this balance, men can exemplify the strength of a godly man who follows Jesus.

Prisca and Aquila’s faithfulness is an inspiration. They showed us the importance of opening our hearts and homes to others, faithfully investing in our families, and embodying the balanced strength and gentleness found in Jesus Christ. Let us follow their example so that we may reflect the love and grace of our Heavenly Father in every aspect of our lives.
