Stressed Out

DAY 11 OF 15

In ancient times, when travelers would go on a journey, paths would often go through mountains. Robbers were notorious for positioning themselves in the mountains before they attacked because they had a higher viewpoint. It was a more advantageous point to see their victims. So it wasn’t uncommon for travelers to look up to the hills to see if they could see any signs of robbers. Psalm 121 tells us there’s another perspective. I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth (Psalm 121:1-2).

Scripture is offering a different perspective. God also was associated with the mountains. When it comes to our journey through life, are we focusing more on the potential robbers—the what-ifs—who could be in the hills? Or are we tuning our hearts to what is true and focusing on our King who is higher and greater than all? The reality is that there are two ways to walk through life: afraid or faith-filled. Fearful or resting in truth. Our Father wants us to live under the umbrella of His Kingship and His Kingdom. The Spirit inside of us knows what reality is—how we’re children of the King and what all that means—even when our hearts are having a hard time resting. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you see what the reality of your life is as a child of the King. Then rest in what He shows you.
