Thief of Everything

DAY 19 OF 21

Recently, a movie came out for one of my favorite books I read years ago. With excitement, I sat down and watched the movie, but the whole time I found myself comparing the film to the original book. With these thoughts spiraling in my mind, I could not actually enjoy the movie.

The comparison does not just happen between books and movies, but with ourselves and others as well. Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians that when we compare ourselves with others, we may feel proud because we think we are better than them. But, this kind of pride is not what’s best for us or others. On the other side, we should not make others our measure, making ourselves feel like failures compared to them. You don’t have to compare your life to other people’s accomplishments. This kind of comparison isn't what’s best for you or others.

To avoid this kind of comparison, continually ask yourself this question: How does my life uniquely reflect God to the world around me?
