The Lord, My Rock

Our Lord and our God, you are my mighty rock, my fortress, my protector. You are the rock where I am safe. You are my shield, my powerful weapon, and my place of shelter.

2 Samuel 22:2–3 (CEV)

When do you feel safe? When you see a mighty Navy ship come in? Or a formation of jets flies over, rocking your chest with the sound? Or you are surrounded by a bunch of tough soldiers? How about when you are in your parent’s loving arms?

All of these things may help you feel safe. But no matter what happens or where you are, God is your safe place. He is like the biggest rock or the strongest fort. He is mightier than a Navy ship. He is watching over you like a jet, and he surrounds you like strong arms in a huge hug.

In the Bible we read about God saving people from all kinds of things like lions, shipwrecks, and snake bites! When a man named David wrote today's verse, God had saved him from a whole army out to get him. David made sure to thank God and sing about how awesome he is.

You may never know all the ways God keeps you safe, but you can thank him for all of it!
