7 Days Focused on Living JoyfullySample

Humble Yourself
Pride can be so sneaky that we sometimes fail to recognize it when acting out of it, making humility hard. When you look up the word humble, the definition doesn’t sound like something we would want to strive after: “Ranking low in a hierarchy or scale: insignificant, unpretentious.” This seems to be the opposite of what Scripture tells us since we are encouraged to remember that we are heirs to the throne, adopted children of the Most High.
Why should we have a low view of ourselves when the Creator of the world concerns himself with our every thought? In a word: Jesus. Jesus is our shining example of humility. He doesn’t have low self-esteem. He placed the needs of others above his own, even at the cost of his life. The first shall be last, and the last shall be first.
Reflect: Find a way to put the needs of others above your own today.
Prayer: Lord, I desire to be more like Jesus. Open my eyes to any areas of pride in my heart. I hand them over to you, Lord. Amen.

About this Plan

Our culture encourages instant gratification, promoting must-have brands, conveniences, and luxuries, but dissatisfaction often results. True, lasting contentment cannot be found in worldly things. Jesus wants our hearts to overflow with joy, and he offers it freely. Lydia McLaughlin’s devotions are full of power to apply Scripture, speak prayer, and start each day with a fresh promise.
