A Dozen Easter Bible Stories for Kids, Children, & Kiddos

DAY 4 OF 12

Last Supper Surprises

Last Supper Surprises

Main Point: Jesus gave new meaning to the Passover symbols.

Be on the lookout! Questions:

What 3 surprises did Jesus tell his disciples during his last Passover holiday meal?

[Grownups Notes: After watching the video Bible story ask this question, “What were the 3 surprises at this Passover meal?” Give them time to guess or try to remember. You can offer to let them re-watch and shout out each surprise when the surprised emoji comes up or just proceed.]

Kid’s Devotional:

Once, Jesus and his friends had a special dinner called Passover. Jesus said this would be the last Passover meal He would celebrate with them on Earth. That’s why we now call this The Last Supper.

Jesus surprised his friends by telling them three things.

1. He said that one of his friends would betray him.
2. He said that the flatbread they were eating meant something new. It represented Jesus's body that would be broken for them. And...
3. The wine also had a new meaning. It represented Jesus's blood that would be poured out when he died on a cross.

Jesus's friends didn't understand. But we have the Bible stories to help us learn what happened and why it matters to us.

Now, you remember, kiddo, Grandma Goodie loves you but God loves you more!

Let's Pray:

Dear God,

Thank you for showing us the three surprises at this Passover holiday meal.

Please help me understand what these symbols mean and how Jesus is like the Passover lamb.

Thank you for a holiday celebrating protection from death and freedom.

Amen!

Play Idea:

  • Have you played Duck, Duck, Goose? Play a game just like that, but think about how Jesus’s disciples didn’t know who would be the one to betray Jesus. 11 of Jesus’s disciples were still his friends. One, hidden among them, would become his foe. He would betray him to his enemies. So, instead of saying, “Duck, Duck, Goose”, in this version of the game, say Friend, Friend, Foe.
