Power for LifeSample

As you read Mark 11 today, you will find some footnotes in your Bible. Footnotes are a way to show where quotations in the text come from or offer other helpful information about that text. In a print Bible, the footnotes look like a small letter above the end of the sentence. If you are using the YouVersion Bible App, you will see that the footnotes look like a small conversation bubble with three dots inside. For example, in verse 9, there are two. The first follows the word "Hosanna!" and the second follows "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" If you click on the conversation bubble following "Hosanna," you will find "11:9 A Hebrew expression meaning "Save!" which became an exclamation of praise; also in verse 10." The second conversation bubble says, "11:9 Psalm 118:25, 26". This lets the reader know that these statements are quotations from Psalm 118. Psalm 118 is a messianic psalm written hundreds of years before the events in Mark 11, but the people along the road quote it to celebrate that God has shown up to SAVE (Hosanna) them! Today, consider reading Psalm 118 along with your other readings and look for the promises and hope that the people saw in Jesus! Use the Notes feature of the YouVersion App to reflect on the relationship between Mark 11 and Psalm 118.
