Catechism: Why Break the Mold?

DAY 3 OF 3

These last two days we’ve been talking about how God is awesome and majestic. There is no one like him, and he is worthy of all our praise and adoration. He is set apart, the perfect One.

Seeing God and knowing him - understanding the truth of who he is - evokes a response. His revelation may leave us stunned in awe, humbled in repentance, or joyful in praise! Whatever the response, our God is worthy of it all!

Today’s readings come from two different psalms of David where he celebrates God’s amazing acts and lavish love, responding in praise and inviting us to do the same!

In Psalm 117, the shortest psalm in the Bible, we can see the knowledge of who God is revealed through the author’s relationship with him - a revelation of God’s powerful love that calls for a response.

Verse one calls us to join all nations in praise to God. God wants everyone to know him and to experience his love. Knowing we are all invited to know him should cause us great joy - no one has been left off the invitation list!

Verse two proclaims the powerful love God has for his people and tells of his forever faithfulness. He never leaves or abandons us, and his love isn’t fickle or weak. Seeing him for who he is should cause us to give thanks and praise to him - what an incredible God he is!

There’s joy in seeing and knowing God. His faithful and powerful love transforms us. Let who he is change you today.

Consider: Listen to the words of this song, So Will I, and consider how it describes the wonder and majesty, the deep love of our God.

Reflect: If you were to write a two-verse psalm, what would you want everyone to know about God, and how would you ask them to respond to him?
