Sis, Just Rest

DAY 4 OF 8

SIS, REST IN FAITH

There is so much we can learn from John 14, and one that stands out is, "Do not let your heart be troubled, afraid, or cowardly. Believe confidently in God and trust in him. Have faith. Hold onto it, rely on it, keep going. And believe also in me."

What we can learn from this scripture is, first, to have a relationship with God that says, "Do not let your heart be troubled. Believe in God." In order to believe in God, you have to have a relationship with Him. You have to know who He is and His character. The best way to learn who God is is through His son, Jesus. Jesus modeled the heart of God. He walked with compassion, righteousness, and love. He spoke only what the Father told him to speak. You can see the heart of God through his son, Jesus Christ.

The scripture then says, "Trust in God." So, once you have that relationship with God, it automatically creates trust. Just like in natural relationships, when you grow in a relationship with someone and spend time with them, you start to trust them. It may take time depending on what they do and how they do it, but God in our relationship with Him is faithful, and that faithfulness will cultivate trust. So, you trust in Him.

Then it says, "Have faith." After you have this relationship with God and it grows naturally into trust with God, then faith comes. Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the word of God. As you read His word and trust in Him, it builds faith in you. And faith is what gets you to rest. So, you hold onto faith, rely on it, keep going in faith, and faith gets you to that place of resting in Jesus.

Faith comes by hearing about Him, hearing the word of God. It's faith that pleases Him, but it's also faith that is the receiver. It allows you to receive what Christ has already made available. Rest has been made available to us through Christ. So, you have the relationship with God, which naturally cultivates trust in God. And you have this relationship with God because you're reading the word of God. The word of God produces faith. And that faith is the receiver that allows you to receive the rest of God. That rest is not all that you receive. You can receive peace, joy, a sound mind. There's a lot that you can receive from the receiver of faith. Ephesians 2:8 says, "For it is by grace you have been saved through faith." So, faith is a receiver. It's the thing that allows what Christ made available to you to get to you.

In summary, the scripture teaches us that by having a relationship with God, we can cultivate trust in Him, which leads to faith. This faith is the receiver that allows us to receive the rest and other gifts that Christ has made available to us. The passage is also encouraging us to have faith and trust in God, which can be developed through a relationship with Him and reading His word. It is through faith that we can receive the many blessings and benefits that God has made available to us through Christ. It's a reminder that we don't have to be troubled or afraid because God is with us and for us.
