Can I Really Overcome?Sample

Can I Really Overcome?

DAY 1 OF 5

The Father’s Love

Adoption is a profound practice. The adopted child is chosen and desired by their new parents, becoming a part of their family. The child not only comes into a new home and a new family, but also enters into a new identity. Their family name changes, and they also become a legal heir.

In Bible times, adoption was the practice of “placing a child in the presence of his father.” There was a ceremony where the father placed his hand on the child and said, “You are my son or daughter.” At that point, the full, irrevocable legal transfer of “rights and privileges” was made.

In Christ, we are placed in the presence of a new Father, God Himself. Through this adoption process, we gain the full, irrevocable rights of God’s children, even becoming co-heirs with Jesus (Romans 8:17). This is the foundation—the seedbed—of an overcoming life!

Paul says this adoption changes our relationship with God so much that we call out to Him as “Abba, Father.” Abba is the Aramaic word for "daddy" that was used in close, intimate relationships, as with a young child.

You see, my friend, God is not stuck with you. He chose you. God is not tired of you. He's waiting with open arms. God is not done with you. His plans for you are eternal. Before you were even born, God made plans to pursue you.

Today, live with the confidence that the Good Father loves you!

As you engage with God’s Word:

● What is God saying to you?

● What does it mean to you?

● What action step do you need to take?

After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
