The Parables Of ChristSample

"The Lost Sheep"
Lost! The Bible never apologizes for defining all of humanity as lost. Even believers are likened to sheep, and sheep are stupid! Sheep chase after things that will only destroy them, and like them, we can even feast on good things to the point of only killing ourselves. This is the sad state of humanity, and yet Jesus affirms both our tragedy and our original beauty in his parables about “lost stuff.”
As you read today's parables think about the way Jesus sees humanity. He weighs us rightly. Though he sees us as deaf and dumb—and that we are—he prizes us because he has formed us in his image. Therefore, there is no level of lostness that has resulted in someone being tarnished beyond hope of being restored to beauty! Jesus can find, redeem, and reveal the value of anything lost. He reveals such value whenever he finds us.

About this Plan

In Mark 4:10-12, Jesus says that the purpose of the Parables is to teach truth to those that seek, and to hide it from those who will not. Jesus often hid principles one at a time in his stories, and other times he would string a variety of them together to make one BIG point. Join us in our 7-Day journey through the Parables and discover the profound wisdom of these simple stories.
