Transition to Your Mission

DAY 1 OF 5

I looked at my phone yesterday as another news notification signaled a slowing economy, job losses, and dismal financial reports. The word TRANSITION hit me like a ton of bricks.

I thought about the word TRANSITION for some time as I got into my car and ran some errands. As I did, the word TRANSITION hit me again.

This time, it was in reference to the car I was driving.

As I reflected on this idea, I had an aha moment. I grinned at its simplicity, and it got me thinking more deeply and intentionally about how I live my life.

The idea that came to me about transition was about you and me and how we drive our cars. If you’re like me, you get in your car, you turn on maps, and you figure out the best way to get to your destination.

Maps, Waze, or Google Maps ensures you are taking the best route possible. I love that. I trust that, and it makes driving easier for me.

What I never realized till now was how driving was really about transitions.

When you turn your car on, there is a transition as it begins to move. There are transitions when you stop at a stop light or a stop sign or a car in front of you. There are transitions when you slow down to make a turn, change lanes, or avoid obstacles on the roads.

Everything about your drive to your destination is about transition. What makes the transition easier is when you include these three keys:

  • Preparation
  • Repetition
  • Belief

Preparation says you know where you are going. You have prepared by using maps to calculate the most efficient route for you. You are able to prepare for turns, stop lights, traffic, and anything else which may cause a delay.

This is the power of preparation.

Transition is easier when you have done it before. One of the keys to building confidence is repetition. The more repetitions you get when you drive your car, the easier it is to navigate through the many transitions.

This is the power of repetition.

Belief says, I know I will arrive. Transition is easier when you believe you are going to arrive at your destination. You don’t worry or get worked up when you drive because maps show you where you are going and approximately what time you will arrive.

This is the power of belief.

Let’s get out of the car analogy and bring it home for you.

Belief is critical when you are in a transition process in your life. When I lost my job, it was critical to work on my new destination and BELIEVE I would be able to get there.

I love this quote by Henry Ford which says, “Whether you think you can or you cannot, you are right.”

This quote by Henry Ford reminds me so much of the words in Proverbs 18:3 which says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it, will eat its fruits.”

As you are in this transition process, what do you want to believe?

What are you speaking about your situation? Are you speaking life or death?

Just like you tap your map destination into your iPhone for where you want to go, you must decide where you want to go with your life and BELIEVE you will make it.

Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, it’s the evidence of things unseen.”

During the transition, faith must be activated so you can see where you want to go and believe you will make it.

I always love to share with my clients the power of their words. I say, “Your words are the architect of your future.”

So, let me ask you, “What do you want to build during this transition?”

What do you believe you can achieve?

What destination do you want to insert into your life?

What are you doing to put fuel into what you believe?

What words need to be added to your daily vocabulary?

What words need to be omitted?

What relationships build your belief?

What relationships kill your belief?

As you set your intention during this transition season let me remind you of some Biblical transitions and the BELIEF they needed.

  • Moses believed in God and led the Israelites out of Egypt. He had never done it before.
  • Noah built an ark even though it had never rained. He had never built an ark before.
  • Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son to build a nation. He had never done that before.
  • Peter walked on water with Jesus. He had never done it before.

Go through the Bible and start to find the stories that resonate with you. Let me know what resonated with you the most.

Rooting for you.

God bless.
