Theology for Everybody: RomansSample

So many of God’s gifts to the world have come through the Jewish people. When they adhere to the values and convictions of the Scriptures, even if they don’t know the God who wrote them, there’s still an uncanny ability for them to succeed because they’re operating within the paradigm God intended. This includes humanity and equality. If you believe in evolution—that humans are part human and part animal—then you assume that some people are more evolved than others. And this is where we get racism.
People often say, “We need justice and equality.” My response is, “Why?” If people don’t believe there are laws, why are they so concerned about justice? And if they don’t believe that we are made in the image and likeness of God, then why do they believe there should be equality among people? People often have Christian ethics but without Christian convictions. They’ve walked away from the Bible and borrowed (or stolen) a few concepts they think will be beneficial while rejecting or editing all the others.
The reason Christians believe in equality goes all the way back to the Jewish people: God made all of us in His image and likeness. We are not part human and part animal. There are animals and people, and God clearly delineates between the two. He saves people from all races, tribes, cultures, languages, and people groups. He’s a global God.
God created marriage. It was carried forth by the Jewish people. Most of the surrounding nations were historically polygamous, with lots of adultery. No one raised their children, and men did not take responsibility or consider their legacy. But the truth is God made marriage, not the state. The state has no right to rearchitect marriage because it didn’t create it. It’s only supposed to enforce it. (Continued on Day 234 ...)
Today’s Reflection
In a society that holds marriage in less and less esteem, how does it make you feel to know that God created marriage?
