Daily PresenceSample

I’ve seen too many “Christians” fall from their man-made pedestals this year. Sometimes I sense it coming and other times I feel like I’ve been duped. Our world is obsessed with celebrity culture. We’re desperate for the next charismatic, popular, flashy-fame-seeker to take the stage in our hearts. We’ll buy their books, follow their social media accounts and commit to their word without considering their spiritual credentials or their personal lives. I’m guilty of it too. For some reason in my flesh, nice hair, cool clothes, and a big personality can convince me someone is worthy of my devotion. Unfortunately, I’m regularly proven wrong.
Jesus was so different. I wonder if we’d even notice him if he were to walk with us today. I have a suspicion that we’d completely miss Him. He’d be too focused on serving the Kingdom and seeking the Lord to busy himself with self-promotion and we’d be caught up in just that.
As I’ve sadly watched some of my heroes publically fall apart, I ask myself, “am I looking to Godly mentors, or am I being blinded by the flash-and-trash of stardom?” I can’t simply live in fear of disappointment and I believe God has leaders in my life who He’s appointed to guide me through His Spirit, but I must first seek Christ! I will first seek a humbleness to value spiritual integrity and truth over what may be “popular.” I will hold the Bible’s words more dearly than the quotable words of men. After all, Jesus had all the answers, yet we crucified Him. Talk about unpopular. In God's Kingdom, popularity means nothing in comparison to the one who seeks goodness and mercy above acclaim and fame. In the Kingdom of God, Christ means everything.
