[Gregg Matte Wisdom of Solomon] Deep Roots in Relationship

DAY 1 OF 6

Logs On The Fire

Marriage is such a sweet journey. Song of Songs helps us see not only what God intends for dating relationships, but teaches us how to have godly intimacy, what to do in conflicts, and how to keep the fire going amid life’s ebb and flow. We will see the deepening of the relationship between Solomon and his wife. If you go back to the beginning of Song of Songs, you can see their attraction, their dating, and their worship; now we see their marriage as it has matured. It is one thing to be madly in love while young and full of energy and passion, but it is another thing to be madly and passionately in love when you’re older. Maybe for you, the passion is no longer there. What was once a relationship filled with spontaneous date nights, compliments galore, flowers, and whatever caused butterflies in your stomach has become stale and stagnant. There is hope. Whether you are the husband or the wife, there is hope for your marriage.

In these last passages of Song of Songs, we will see God’s template for our marriages in the latter days. We will see this maturing, beautiful, poetic, and high standard of what it means to be a man and woman and grow in marriage. It is important to know God’s template because we are confused about what marriage and love should look like in society. Movies and novels have portrayed a weak, lacking, and not truly satisfying view of marriage. We must not let this be our standard. We must go back to what God created marriage to be.

If you feel like you are the reason your marriage is lacking or crumbling, know that there is forgiveness in Jesus. Know that though this standard of God exists for marriage, we won’t always hit the mark. There will be many days we don’t measure up, but the hope is that we will strive towards it every day. Though we don’t measure up, God’s pursuit and love for us doesn’t change. Look at how Jesus has loved you. Reciprocate that love, by His power, to your spouse in hopes that things can be turned around. Take this journey to see how to rekindle the flames of passion and love, with the hope of doing so for the glory of God.
