Call a Solemn Assembly

Solemn assembly is a week set aside for prayer and worship as a church family during the first week of the fast. As we have consecrated this fast, we are returning to the Lord with all our hearts and making our spirits more sensitive to Him. Joel chapter 2 instructs us to gather the people and children, consecrate a fast, and return to the Lord with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Joel 1:14 says to consecrate a fast. Consecrating means to dedicate, set apart as sacred, and observe as holy. We aren’t just beginning a fast and gathering together; we are obeying God and setting ourselves and our time apart to specifically meet with Him and please His heart.

Prayer: Lord, I return to You, my first love, with fasting, weeping, and mourning. I long to be close to You. All of this is for You. As we gather together in worship and prayer, we consecrate this time and these next 40 days to You. I want to please You and Your heart. Amen.
