A Fruitful Life

DAY 3 OF 9

Peace, like faith, is something that is easily understood, but difficult to obtain, and even more difficult to keep amidst turmoil.

Many preach peace, but peace that supersedes what is happening in life comes directly from the Lord. If our soul is at peace, the difficulties of our life cannot rob us of it.

It remains within us despite all opposition and difficulties of our life. When we remember that our hope is found in an unwavering, faithful God, nothing can rob us of our peace.

In life, it is certain that we will face challenges.

Hardships, frustration, and heartache are nearly impossible to avoid at times. Many times these circumstances may lead us to feel uncertain, but having a foundation that is right with the Lord provides us with an internal (and eternal) assurance that regardless of our circumstances, His peace is ours.

Much like a child when a storm comes into the night, we feel scared during times of uncertainty. So, we run into our parents’ rooms for comfort. Though the storm continues, we feel peace just by knowing that they are there. Philippians 4:6 talks about a peace that surpasses all understanding. It continues to say that it will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

One of the most popular hymns of all time would be a song titled,“It Is Well With My Soul.”

This song written by Horatio Spafford tells of the emotions that he went through when he lost his four daughters in a boating accident. This tragedy mentally crippled Horatio and his wife, Anna. Yet, somehow, this inspired him to write this song.

Despite such a devastating tragedy, Horatio’s faith and trust in the Lord allowed him to heal and have peace. He didn’t have to understand to know and operate in the Lord’s peace.

The pain he surely felt would be immobilizing for most, yet he relied on the peace that God has provided him to carry him through. He trusted God despite his circumstances, when many would have crumbled underneath the weight of this sorrow.

That is the power of God’s peace at work in our lives.

THAT is internal, eternal peace.

And genuine, lasting peace simply cannot be found through any other means.
