Learning Hope From Naomi’s Loss: Readings From Ruth

DAY 1 OF 5

Reflect on today’s reading using these questions:

  • How does Naomi see herself compared to who she was before?
  • What more do you learn about how she views God?

How Loss Changes Us

Naomi sees herself as bitter and empty, whereas before, she was pleasant and full (1:20). Her experiences have impacted her so deeply that she does not see herself as the same person she was before. She wants to be called Marah (“bitter” in Hebrew), not Naomi (“pleasant”).

Reflect on your story:

  • What are a few things you have lost during a traumatic experience?
  • What are a few things you have gained? (These can be good or unwanted gains.)

Each of our readers has a unique story of how they interact with the Bible. We invite you to click on the link below, so we can learn more about you and readers like you.
