Identity Conquers Lust

DAY 10 OF 10

Outgrowing Porn

Watch how Brandon’s story illustrates how living out of an Identity in Christ conquers lust. After watching this short video make sure to read the important final thoughts and potential next step.

This is what we are seeing. Men and women, like Brandon, outgrow porn and, in the process, become more like Christ as they live out an identity in Him as a lifestyle.

Here are the six roots of a porn or sex addiction and the area of growth required to overcome them:

Root of Addiction → Growth Area

  • The Sexualized Society→ Practical Holiness
  • The Addicted Brain → Renewing the mind
  • Isolation → Authentic Relationships/Accountability
  • Negative Emotions → Processing your emotions
  • Trauma → Replacing lies deposited by trauma with truth
  • Shame → Living out of an Identity in Christ
Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24

Putting off the old and putting on the new not only applies to living out of our identity in Christ, but it also applies to walking in freedom from sexual sin. Porn or sex addiction is not just a problem to address but an opportunity for deep discipleship. Don’t underestimate how God will use the process of freeing you from porn to grow, develop and disciple you as a whole person. What is your next step of growth, freedom, and living out of your identity in Christ?

A Next Step :

  • Go through the 30-Day Challenge (https://thefreedomfight.org/30-day-challenge-sign-up/) which is a Biblically based and scientifically informed recovery/discipleship program built to address the six roots of addiction and jump-start your progress towards freedom from porn or other unwanted sexual behaviors.
