Exploring God’s World With God’s Word: 5 Days of Biblical AdventuresSample

Have you ever experienced a day that seemed to last forever —maybe waiting in a long line or an especially slow school day? Joshua and the Israelites know all about it. Their day-without-night happened during a battle with the Amorites. Scripture says the sun “delayed its setting almost a full day. There has been no day like it before or since” (v. 13-14, emphasis added). The reason? “[T]he LORD fought for Israel” (v. 14).
While you probably have never experienced a day like this, God’s world is full of wonder if you know where to look. In places north of the arctic circle, like Svalbard, Norway, the sun is visible 24 hours a day during the summer.
Though the sun shining through the night is normal for the people of Svalbard, it is not something the people at Gibeonwould have ever experienced. Can you imagine what the people thought when God answered Joshua’s prayer?
Consider this: the same God who created the sun and held it still in the sky for his people listens to you when you pray. Knowing this, what sort of sun-stopping questions do you have for God?
