The Jesus Bible Reading Plan

DAY 328 OF 365

FRIENDSHIP

Everyone has experienced to some extent the force of the first line in this verse: “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin.” Unfortunately, no one is exempt from being let down and letting others down. This proverb is a reminder that everyone needs a friend who is more than just a casual association — and each person needs to be that kind of friend to others. People need true friends who will be closer and more loyal than even blood relatives. This proverb clearly points to Jesus Christ, who is a friend that is better than family. Jesus described what true friendship is: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (Jn 15:13). Jesus displayed the greatest love and friendship to us through his death on the cross. In Christ, we have the friend we need (Jn 15:15), and we can become the kind of friend that others need.

Jesus, help me to love all people, but send me a few friends who will make my faith in you grow stronger. Thank you for being my best friend. Amen.
