The Jesus Bible Reading Plan

DAY 277 OF 365

AWESOME GOD

Thinking about God should always lead to worship. God has revealed himself in his Word so that people may know him and worship him. Conversations about God should have the ultimate goal of pointing people to God and helping them love God. Elihu’s speech ends with praise for God. Elihu points out that no human can control the weather, the storm or the lightning, but God does. God puts the sky in place and sets the clouds wherever he likes. No human can look into the sun without becoming blurry-eyed for a few minutes, but God’s golden splendor is brighter than the sun. He is exalted. He is glorious. He has great power and many other attributes too numerous to name. He could rule over people as a tyrant with power and might, and yet, he chooses to rule with love.

Jesus left the people he encountered with a sense of awe as he exercised his authority humbly (Mt 9:8). His actions inspired people to praise God (Lk 5:26). He lived in such a way that people recognized him as a great prophet and helper sent by God (Lk 7:16). Jesus is majestic. He is the gift that can never be taken away and that leads to a life of worship that never ends. “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe” (Heb 12:28).

Jesus, when I spend time with you, I can’t help but worship you. Help me to prioritize my time with you in this busy world. Amen.
