Through the Bible: 1 TimothySample

Pursuit of Godliness
But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.
1 Timothy 6:6-7 (ESV)
The word “Godliness” is emphasised a few times in the last chapter of 1 Timothy. Paul especially instructed people who are rich to pursue godliness instead of money. To flee from the love of money and instead seek godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. We are to fight the good fight of faith, for the journey of faith is usually not smooth sailing. For the rich, be rich in good deeds as well; be generous - that way there will be a greater treasure for them than the earthly wealth they store for ourselves.
Prayer
Thank you Lord Jesus for the sound instructions You have given us. We pray we will seek godliness and understanding. We pray that we will guard our hearts and our minds and stay away from unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels. We pray that we will seek Your Kingdom and righteousness. Holy Spirit, lead us to fight a good fight of faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Apostle Paul recruited the puerile Timothy as his assistant during his second missionary journey. Fast forward a decade, Timothy had undertaken a bigger responsibility to pastor the Ephesian church. Hearing the reports of the older Christians’ questioning Timothy’s capability, Paul penned this letter to affirm Timothy, charging him to set an example of faith, and giving practical leadership advice. Paul’s words to Timothy will significantly resonate with anyone in ministry.
