DAY 6 OF 7

“To the cross, to the cross, where I first saw the light, take me back,
To the cross, to the cross, where my Jesus died”

- Take Me Back, Maverick City Music

One of the most crucial things we must do as followers of Jesus is remember. After God delivered His people from the hand of Pharaoh, He continually made it a point for them to“remember that I am your Lord, the one who rescued you out of Egypt”(Exodus 20:2). Our salvation is the most important moment of our life. Our salvation makes us part of the Kingdom of God. The decision to turn from our old ways and become new in Christ is the best decision we can make. As we get older in the faith, it can be easy to forget the initial experience that changed our lives forever, but taking time to remember it will fuel us when life makes us weary. Though we often treat remembrance as optional, we must remind ourselves that it was a command from God. Over 200 times the scriptures mention the word “remember”, one of the most notable times being when Jesus introduced The Last Supper. It was here that He told us to make a habit of remembering His suffering as often as we break bread together. Take some time to reflect on this calling from God today and give Him thanks for the ways He’s rescued you and His kingdom.

SCRIPTURE:

  • and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘this is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.’” 1 Corinthians 11:24
  • “So Moses said to the people, ‘This is a day to remember forever—the day you left Egypt, the place of your slavery. Today the LORD has brought you out by the power of his mighty hand.’” Exodus 13:3

QUESTIONS:

  • Reflect on the moment you surrendered your life to Christ. Remember what you felt, experienced and why you made that decision. What is coming to mind as you recall this?
  • Why is remembrance so important for us as believers?
