Reflections On Hope

DAY 19 OF 21

Read Psalm 27:13-14 and then read it again. ‘I am confident’ . Wow! Where has this passage been all this year? For the last two years? Have we been meditating on this truth as our world undergoes wars and conflicts, death and suffering, restrictions and broken relationships, distrust and hatred towards our neighbour? I must admit that I have not, but now that I read it, I cannot help but be filled with an overwhelming sense of hope that God’s will prevails over every circumstance we may face.

As Christians, we are often told to take comfort in the hope that will come after this life, believing Romans 8:18 (NIV), where “our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us later”. When all seems lost, Paul’s words on our future glory instil in us a hope that is eternal, and at the very least, allows us to depend on a future that is after this life.

But this is not our only hope. No, we may be confident that today, in this moment, while we still walk in the “land of the living”, we will see the Lord’s goodness prevail; this is a goodness that shines through all war and darkness, conflict and divisions, and lifts our spirits and provides a peace that transcends all human understanding.

What does the Lord require of you? To wait patiently for Him, to be brave and courageous, and again, to wait patiently for the Lord.

May we wait patiently with an expectant hope for our God of goodness, power, and glory, the ruler of all, and welcome with open, expecting arms, His goodness to wash over us once more.
