In a race, which position do you want to come in? First!

We all know that there’s something special about being first. God’s Word talks about how important giving God our ‘first’ is. When people brought their offering to God, it may have been crops of wheat, fruit or even an animal. It was important to bring God the first of the crops, the first fruits or the firstborn of the animals. It was important to bring God the first and not just whatever is left over.

When God gave Moses the 10 commandments the very first one was all about what should come first, “have no other god’s before me”. God wanted His people to know there should be nothing else taking His place. In Old Testament times, people would worship other Gods, sometimes they would even worship statues that they had made themselves instead of worshipping the One True God!

We don’t want to give God our leftovers. Getting to the end of the week and giving God just what little we have left after putting everything else first. God promises that when we put Him first, we will be blessed.
