Daily Bible Reading – May 2022 God’s Renewing Word of PromiseSample

May 19
Introduction
Today’s reading is often referred to as Samuel’s farewell address. He begins by seeking acknowledgment from the people for his leadership and then recounts God’s mighty deeds and all the times God rescued them from their enemies. He reminds them to obey and serve the LORD.
Scripture Reading
1 Samuel 12:1-25
Today’s Key Verse:1 Samuel 12:24
[Samuel said:] “Obey the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart. Remember the great things he has done for you.”
Reflect
Why does Samuel tell the people that they committed a great sin against the LORD when they asked for a king (verse 17)? When the people acknowledge their sin, what does Samuel tell them (verses 20-22)? What examples does Samuel give as evidence that God has taken care of the Israelites (verses 6-11)? In what ways do you experience God’s loving care?
Pray
Lord God, I want to obey you with all my heart and serve you faithfully. I praise and thank you for all the great and wonderful things you have done and for your steadfast love and care. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
1 Samuel 15:1-9: Saul defeats the Amalekites
