Resting in the LordSample

God knows best
Elijah was an ordinary man like you and me, says James, but if I read through all the stories about Elijah's ministry, I admit I look up to him. Before the event described in 1 Kings 19:12, he was on Mount Carmel mocking the priests of Baal. When he prayed, fire fell from heaven and swallowed all the sacrifices and the extra water Elijah poured over the altar. A tremendous work of the Lord through him, and in this moment of triumph, the queen said one sentence, and this death threat penetrated Elijah's heart. He fled into the desert alone. He was ready to die.
After being fed by an angel twice, he traveled to the mountain where he would meet the Lord. There could have been enough reasons for the Lord to be in the wind or the earthquake. Elijah's attitude was far from good. He was suffering from self-pity and depression and had no hope anymore. Before in the desert, he asked the Lord to take him away, but the Lord knew better. He knew Elijah's heart, and He also knows your heart. He knew what Elijah needed in that time of need, and whatever situation you are in, God knows what you need.
Maybe today, you need the Lord to speak into your situation. He wants to talk to you in the earthquake, the wind, the fire, or in a gentle whisper. The Lord knows best what you need. Find Him on His terms.
