The Precious Gift of ForgivenessSample

Being in debt to God
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
When you have wronged someone, you are in debt to this person. The Bible says that every human being is in debt to the Lord God. Since God created us as good and righteous people whose purpose was to glorify Him, He has every right to demand our perfect devotion. But since the first humans decided to disobey their Creator, they became sinful and so did all their descendants. No human is righteous before God anymore. We are all affected by sin; we deny God the honor He is due and we continuously transgress against His commandment to love God above all and other people as ourselves. That leaves us guilty.
The consequences of our debt to God are horrible. God had warned the first humans beforehand that they would die if they disobeyed Him, and that’s what we see happening all around us: “For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23).
Death is not natural. It was not meant to be. It is the consequence of our damaged relationship with God.
Do you agree that you have sinned against the Lord God?
About this Plan

The Bible is clear about it: we humans are sinful and deserve punishment. But, the Bible also explains that God offers forgiveness if we confess and turn away from our sins. God also enables us to forgive ourselves and others, which is very freeing and helps us to restore relationships. This reading plan discusses some key Bible verses about receiving and giving forgiveness.
