Catechism: On MissionSample

When you have a goal, it helps to visualize the ending. That’s why athletes spend time visualizing Super Bowl celebrations, gold medal ceremonies, and homecoming parades. In the same way, we can look forward to what awaits believers who are living on mission. Our mission is ongoing, but God has already shown us the endgame: John’s vision in Revelation shows us what God’s kingdom will look like once the mission is complete.We don’t know the timing, but we can trust that one day Jesus will return, defeat all evil, and finally and fully establish God’s kingdom on earth.

When that day comes, people from every culture, ethnicity, country, and language will come together to worship the one true God!

That diverse, loud, joyful party should excite us and motivate us.The kingdom is about unity amidst diversity in the family of God—and what a cool family reunion we have to look forward to in the future!

• Why do you think it is important that in John’s vision of God’s kingdom in Revelation people maintain their cultural and ethnic diversity? What does that show you about God’s design for unity in our churches?
• Have you thought of participating in missions as something you “have to do” or something you “get to do?” Why or why not? How does this passage affect your thinking?
• Think about the difference Christ has made in your life. Who do you know that needs to experience the transforming power of the Gospel? Pray that God would be at work in their lives and that he would help prepare you to share his love well with them. Journal the ways you see God moving in your heart and their lives as you begin to pray for them!
