Pray & Connect: Praying the Psalms for Your ChildrenSample

Scripture: Read Psalm 103 for the full context of this passage.
"The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love." Psalm 103:8
When one of my boys was younger I noticed he was awfully quiet. I walked into the kitchen and followed the cake crumbs to a corner where he was hiding. When he saw me get closer he hid his face behind his chocolate-covered, chubby hands.
I chuckled inside wondering how often I find myself hiding in shame or in fear of God's response towards me.
Once again we see God’s, steadfast love. God does not repay us according to our sin, but instead lavishes us with grace and offers us the gift of salvation through faith. We no longer need to hide in shame because He has redeemed us through Christ Jesus. When we sin we can come to Him for forgiveness.
In this passage, words like "forgives, heals, redeems, gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love" describe God and what He does.
Whether you have a toddler at home or a grown adult child, they can benefit from hearing about God's never-changing love and forgiveness.
Pray your child will know that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Because our Lord is: merciful, gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, we can come to Him.
Pray: Lord, we praise you because you are merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. When {your child's name} falls, may he/she come to you in repentance and hold fast to what Jesus has done on the cross. Amen
Connect: Ask your children, "What are some things that make you angry?" Then tell them what gets you angry. You can bring it back around to giving thanks to God because He is slow to anger.
