Becoming Like Jesus: Silence and SolitudeSample

Creator and King
Pray…
Heavenly Father, I am seeking you wholeheartedly. Jesus, I am surrendering to your will and your ways. Holy Spirit, I am listening for your voice and guidance. Make me aware of your presence. I know you are here. Thank you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Read…
I am the Lord, your Holy One,
Israel’s Creator, your King.” Isaiah 43:15 NIV
“I, even I, am he who blots out
your transgressions, for my own sake,
and remembers your sins no more. Isaiah 43:25 NIV
Consider…
The absolutely mind-blowing thing about God, which the prophets demonstrate so beautifully, is that while God is completely other and holy—higher and mightier than us in every way—He is also near and knowable. God chooses to be intimately known by and involved with His creation. He’s not only holy, He is our Creator who formed us and knows us by name. And He’s not only our Creator, He’s our King—involved in the goings-on of our daily lives. And the kind of King He is is a merciful one. He covers our shame and refuses to remember us by our sins. How great is His love for us!
What’s something you already knew about God that you were reminded of this week?
What’s something new you discovered about the character and nature of God this week?
What’s your favorite thing you have learned up to this point about who God is? Why does that thing stick out to you?
Listen…
Set a timer for 5-10 minutes.
Lead into your listening by finding a comfortable place to sit with your palms open and pray this prayer from St. Francis:
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
Ask God to speak to you.
When you get distracted, come back to Jesus by thanking God for His mercy. “...Your mercies are new every morning and great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23).
