Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "First Things First"

DAY 2 OF 31

When Jesus left His disciples and ascended to Heaven, He left them with a mission, a world-class mission. He said that the disciples would be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the world. What an incredible mission!

Now, the first task that they had to do, to live out that world-class mission, was waiting.

What did the disciples do while waiting? Did they pretend to wait but try with all of their might, relying on their limited wisdom? No, they didn’t. They simply committed themselves to the next small step that Jesus commanded them to do. Instead of “doing their part,” according to their wisdom, they just obeyed, took one step at a time, trusted Jesus’ way, not their own. They simply devoted themselves to praying with one another and waited. They surrendered their lives fully to God.

When we speak about putting God first, it doesn’t only mean that we put His vision and mission first, it also means that we put His ways first. And His ways may be those seemingly little things that He asks us to do.

So, what’s next God?

Devotion for Parents
Waiting is easily the least favorite thing to do. Especially when we feel that we could have done more than just wait. But today, we learn that when God asks us to wait, let’s do it. When we obey His instruction to wait, we allow God’s plan for our lives to come to pass.

How do you apply today’s devotion in your life?

Devotion for Kids
Waiting is never fun. It’s just boring. But when we wait patiently, we will get the best that sometimes even surpasses our expectations.

Today we learn to wait upon God. How do we do it? By praying continually and trusting Him. Would you do it?

Family Devotion Time
Create a game about waiting.

For example, prepare a snack to be eaten together after waiting for a few minutes.

What can we do while waiting upon the promises of God in our lives?
