 <div class="label">42</div><div class="s1">Job</div><div class="p"> 1Then Job replied to the Lord:</div><div class="q1"> 2&#8220;I know that you can do all things;</div><div class="q2">no purpose of yours can be thwarted.</div><div class="q1"> 3You asked, &#8216;Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?&#8217;</div><div class="q2">Surely I spoke of things I did not understand,</div><div class="q2">things too wonderful for me to know.</div><div class="b"></div><div class="q1"> 4&#8220;You said, &#8216;Listen now, and I will speak;</div><div class="q2">I will question you,</div><div class="q2">and you shall answer me.&#8217;</div><div class="q1"> 5My ears had heard of you</div><div class="q2">but now my eyes have seen you.</div><div class="q1"> 6Therefore I despise myself</div><div class="q2">and repent in dust and ashes.&#8221;</div><div class="s1">Epilogue</div><div class="p"> 7After the Lord had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, &#8220;I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has. 8So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.&#8221; 9So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite did what the Lord told them; and the Lord accepted Job&#8217;s prayer.</div><div class="p"> 10After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. 11All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the Lord had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver#42:11 Hebrew him a kesitah; a kesitah was a unit of money of unknown weight and value. and a gold ring.</div><div class="p"> 12The Lord blessed the latter part of Job&#8217;s life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. 13And he also had seven sons and three daughters. 14The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. 15Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job&#8217;s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers.</div><div class="p"> 16After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. 17And so Job died, an old man and full of years.</div>

 <div class="label">5</div><div class="s1">Dealing With a Case of Incest</div><div class="p"> 1It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: A man is sleeping with his father&#8217;s wife. 2And you are proud! Shouldn&#8217;t you rather have gone into mourning and have put out of your fellowship the man who has been doing this? 3For my part, even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. As one who is present with you in this way, I have already passed judgment in the name of our Lord Jesus on the one who has been doing this. 4So when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, 5hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh,#5:5 In contexts like this, the Greek word for flesh (sarx) refers to the sinful state of human beings, often presented as a power in opposition to the Spirit.#5:5 Or of his body so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.</div><div class="p"> 6Your boasting is not good. Don&#8217;t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? 7Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch&#8212;as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.</div><div class="p"> 9I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people&#8212; 10not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister#5:11 The Greek word for brother or sister (adelphos) refers here to a believer, whether man or woman, as part of God&#8217;s family; also in 8:11, 13. but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.</div><div class="p"> 12What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside. &#8220;Expel the wicked person from among you.&#8221;#5:13 Deut. 13:5; 17:7; 19:19; 21:21; 22:21,24; 24:7</div>
