A GLIMPSE OF HEAVEN

What an understatement! The Bible tells us that: ‘many other angels came down from heaven and joined in praising God.’ A throwaway sentence. Those words make it all sound fairly ordinary, as if it was the sort of occurrence you might witness on your way to the shops, or while out walking the dog.

Oh, no! It was anything but ordinary. It was wonderfully, amazingly and incredibly extraordinary! Heaven came to earth to proclaim the birth of the Son of God and it must have been terrifying, really emotional, and completely and utterly overwhelming.

Imagine the scene: rough shepherds gazing up at awesome, blindingly bright angels who suddenly filled the sky. Hearing them praising God. Listening in amazement as they were told that, if they pleased God, they would have peace.

The sights and sounds convinced the shepherds that they must go to Bethlehem and find the baby, so off they hurried. And find the baby they did! Surely, that incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience would have changed them forever? We’re not told, but you can’t help wondering…

And then they’re off, telling everyone they meet all about the Saviour they have seen. As you chase after them, you discover just how many people they have already told! What a story! What an adventure! Jesus has been born!
