Vow to Plow Sample

All through the Bible, there are analogies and parables of gardens, plants, trees, vines, fruit, branches, seeds, sowing, plowing, harvest, and more. In the book of Hosea, we engage in a love story – a tragic one but a love story at that. It goes beyond the story of a man and his wayward wife and tells of God’s unrelenting love for his people. God kept the covenant he made with Israel. His love was steadfast and his commitment unbroken. Israel, however, was adulterous and unfaithful. They made alliances with foreign kings, accepted the worship of their false gods, and hardened their hearts to God. Just as the Israelites turned their back on God, enticed by the gods around them or prompted by fear to seek other promises of security, we too harden our hearts and turn away from God. We so easily turn to other relationships, money, and status or simply take things into our own hands to meet our soul’s needs.
