1 Peter: Is All of This Worth It?Sample

As Christians, Jesus has the highest authority over our lives. In this letter, Peter reminds the church that it is pleasing to God when they are submissive and respectful to earthly authority figures. Our goal should always be to bring glory to God.
Submission by definition means being ready to conform to the authority or will of others. This call to submission is not about perpetuating evil behaviors or powers that are abusive, and it certainly doesn’t condone abusive relationships. What Peter suggests is that we can build up the Church of Christ by humbly living within the rules set by authority figures in our society.
ASK:
-Why is submission a vital part of following Jesus and growing His church?
-Is submission easy or hard for you? Why do you think that is?
TAKE A NEXT STEP:
Is there an area of your life that you need to be more submissive? If so, what is one thing you can do today to work toward being more submissive as an act of obedience to Jesus?

About this Plan

In many areas of today’s world it is not easy being a Christian. We need to ask, is it worth being identified as a follower of Christ? If so, how should we live in a world that rejects us? The early church was asking these questions, too. They were the target of jokes, rumors, discrimination and persecution. God answered and encouraged them through 1 Peter, as He will for us!
