Praying the Psalms: Finding Strength & Hope in Your PrayersSample

Psalm 47 is a joyful song, portraying God as King of all nations. The world He created belongs to Him, and He will make Himself known among all the peoples of the world.
The psalmist connected God's work among the nation to the promise He gave Abraham (v. 9), meaning through Abraham and his descendants God would bless all the peoples of the earth (Gen. 12:3). Through Abraham and his descendants, every language and ethnic group will come to know the one true God, maker of heaven and earth.
Consider using a map or globe as you pray through this psalm. Maybe focus on countries where your relatives live or international missionaries your church supports. Maybe some countries have been in the news recently due to war, famine, or political unrest. Regardless, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you pray for two or three nations. Pray that God would make Himself known among them, that His peace and mercy and love would shine through His people.
