Judges: 10-Day Devotional Reading PlanSample

Abandoning the one true God leads inevitably to destruction. God always intended Israel to dwell safe and secure under His authority, but here again they try to cast Him off, rejecting His right to rule over them. They want to live on their own terms, calling their own shots, and the outcome is devastating. It always is when people reject the one true God.
We human beings simply weren’t created to govern ourselves. We’ve been hardwired to live under a king. But we’ll never submit willingly to a king whom we believe is a tyrant set on forcing us into miserable servitude. That’s why the Lord is always at work in the lives of His people to reveal the true King, the one who is a loving, compassionate ruler.
Reflection:
Misguided worship wasn’t a problem only in the days of the judges. Today we aren’t as likely to make silver statues and personal shrines, but there are churches that adopt patterns for gathered worship that dishonor the Lord. How can we identify such practices, and what should guide the way we worship?
