Lifetime Daily Devotions

DAY 97 OF 365

The Test Drive

You talk about flashy!

Nat had seen this car in his fantasy since he was five years old.

The vivid colors were exactly as he had planned: deep blue-green, royal purple, and, even though no one else had especially liked it, a hair-thin line of lime green stretching from front to back, where there were gold numbers and a gold emblem. There wasn't a lot of chrome, but it was there in just the right proportion. And the lines were such that this car and the wind would be one--no resistance at all. Beautiful! That was all you could say about it. Beautiful.

And no expense had been spared. It was as finely tuned inside as it was finely designed outside. He had spent hours upon hours on the car, and the hours had blended into months and years--drawing and dreaming, working and planning, building and tearing down and rebuilding again. And now it was finished. It was ready.

But was it really?

There's only one way to determine how ready it really is: Drive it. Put it through strenuous testing. Let it meet the adversities of the racetrack. Right?

* * *

I know, my God, that you test men to see if they are good; for you enjoy good men.
1 Chronicles 29:17 tlb

The outside is just for show, isn't it?
God knows what's "under the hood". . . what's inside of me.
I must be tested for performance.
Not for His satisfaction. For mine.
And the finish won't surprise Him.

About this Plan

Lifetime Daily Devotions

Has your faith become more of a burden than a source of joy and rest? The Christian life is not difficult to live. It's impossible to live! God never intended for you to live it. Jesus Christ is the only one who who has ever successfully lived the Christian life, and His plan is to live it through you. We expend so much energy spinning our wheels, trying to live for God instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to live through us. In this deeply personal, encouraging devotional plan, Anabel Gillham comes alongside you to teach you how to allow Christ to express His overcoming life through you on a moment-by-moment basis. It will remind you of who you are in Christ. It will open the floodgates of God's grace, guiding you to experience true rest and freedom in the midst of the storms of life.
