DAY 4 OF 10

Rehoboam - Abijah - Asa

And Rehoboam did evil, for he did not set his heart to seek the Lord.

‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭12:14‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God.

2 Chronicles‬ ‭14:2‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

The reigns of the kings from Rehoboam (17 years) to his son Abijah (3 years) and to his grandson Asa (41 years), two distinct words described what the LORD saw in their hearts: evil or good, and it also revealed their reliance on Him.

Rehoboam's first step away from the Lord was forsaking His law and not following God with a full heart. Abijah’s victory over Israel’s king Jeroboam was with God’s mercy, yet in God’s sight he did evil (1 Kings 15:3). Whereas Asa didn’t follow his ancestors’ footsteps, he rooted out idolatry and immoralities, served God with the right heart and attitude for majority of his 36 kingly years. He stumbled, however, when pride overtook his reliance on God.

I learnt from these kings that faith in God has to be genuine and truthful. Knowing God is one thing but trusting in Him is another. King Asa started off well in pleasing God, but it is important to finish it well. Understanding and believing the Truth require a humble spirit and an obedient heart for faith to be heightened.

Prayer

Father God, By Your grace, help me to walk my life journey faithfully. Strengthen me to keep abiding in Jesus to accomplish what You have started in me till the end as Apostle Paul said: I fought a good fight, I finished the race, I kept my faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
