Through the Bible: 2 Kings

DAY 10 OF 10

The Fall of Judah

In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of King Jehoiachin of Judah, Evil-merodach ascended to the Babylonian throne. He was kind to Jehoiachin and released him from prison on April 2 of that year.  He spoke kindly to Jehoiachin and gave him a higher place than all the other exiled kings in Babylon.

2 Kings 25:27-28 (NLT)

In these two chapters, we can see that the kings of Judah had rejected God and did evil in His eyes. The people of Judah were responsible for a long list of sins they had piled up. Despite many warnings through the prophets, the people would not acknowledge God and abused His grace and patience to them. They reap what they sow. They sow disobedience to God, and they reap judgments from God. Finally, God has given grace to King Jehoiachin by releasing him and allowing him to eat at the Babylonian king’s table. In fact, God is preserving the line of King David because through the line of David is going to come a Messiah, our Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ. Today, God gives us the Holy Spirit to remind us when we are tempted to sin. Do we treasure His reminders and listen to Him?

Prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, we would like to thank You for our Lord Jesus Christ who died for us on the cross, redeemed us, and set us free from the bondage of sins. We are now a new creation and alive in Christ Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen
