We Were Made for ThisSample

Prayer: God, I praise you for your incredible beauty and how you chose to reveal yourself to humanity in inexplicable ways. I long for the day that I will be able to see you face to face. I pray that you would open my eyes up right now to see you in a deeper way. Amen.

What is God’s Glory?

If we look around us, we can see that throughout mainstream media and the entertainment industry, there is a common obsession, fascination and reverence for fantastic, bizarre, and epic stories of fantasy. Series and sagas such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Harry Potter Trilogy, Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit, and Star Wars, among others, may come to mind. We love seeing these cataclysmic and otherworldly universes spring to life on the big screen or manifest themselves onto the pages of a freshly printed book, luring readers and movie watchers into an experience of a world that could be. Though we acknowledge that these stories are entertaining and interesting in nature, we dismiss the fact that deep in our hearts we long to experience this for ourselves and live in these worlds, because really, internally, we know we were designed for something greater. 

Believe it or not, scripture constantly exudes the power and beauty that you long to see and experience, in the form of the glory of God. In Isaiah 6:1-3, Isaiah the prophet has a vision of the Lord sitting on a throne, and like a rippling wave, God’s robe fills the temple. Angels are surrounding Him with their faces covered, exclaiming God’s holiness and how His glory fills the earth. Ezekiel the priest has a vision of “a figure like that of a man” seated high on a throne, radiating a “brilliant light.” Other examples include the parting of the Red Sea and the crumbling of the walls of Jericho. God’s glory is the essence of His mighty power & beauty, trumping everything else. However, His glory goes beyond merely external transcendence. These descriptions and stories of God’s power are just glimpses of the incredible destiny believers have with God in heaven.

What’s Next?

It says in Psalm 19:1 that “the skies above” proclaim God’s handiwork. Take a walk or go outside for a moment, breathe in the fresh air, look around and above you, and reflect on the fact that creation itself reveals the glory of God!

Throughout the week, meditate on Romans 1:20 and pray that God would continue to open your eyes to see His glory!
