God Provides: "What Do You Have?" Widow and Oil Sample

God Provides: "What Do You Have?" Widow and Oil

DAY 3 OF 3

Second Kings 4:1 reveals that the widow “cried out to Elisha,” the prophet of God. And God, through Elisha, responded to her desperate need. God always responds when His people cry out to Him for help.

It’s easy to conclude that we don’t already have what God might use to meet our needs. Jesus’ disciples felt like this, too.

Sometimes God provides miraculously. Other times, we need to ask for help and “borrow jars,” in effect, from other people. God often meets needs through the church—the body of people who follow Jesus. Yet some people find it difficult to ask for help.

REFLECT: How has God provided for your needs, and how have you responded to Him?

In which area(s) might you need to admit your need for help, place your faith and trust in God, and seek—and follow— godly, Bible-based counsel? What may be keeping you from doing this?

PRAY: Lord Jesus, help me to trust You in difficult circumstances. Thank You for providing me with gifts, talents and resources, allowing me to see those as ways to navigate the tough times. Guide me to humbly ask for assistance from others when necessary and allow the body of Christ to provide in ways unimagined. Amen.
