Through the Bible: Judges

DAY 1 OF 8

Influencers For The Generations

Now the angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.'”

Judges 2:1-2 (ESV)

For thousands of years, silver has been valued as a precious commodity used as currency, creation of timeless ornaments and heirloom-quality pieces passed down the generations. However, silver demands careful maintenance as it tarnishes easily when exposed to uncongenial conditions.

Similarly, as children of God, we are called to be the light of the world, to be influencers of His Kingdom. In these first few chapters of Judges, the people of God lived a life that compromised God's instructions, allowing integration that tarnished the truth of God’s call upon their lives. Instead of trusting God in the midst of testing they had turned away to seek other gods. As believers in Christ, we are to clad ourselves with God’s armour, not conforming to the patterns of the world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds in Christ Jesus. Through Jesus we are overcomers. His grace is sufficient for us.

Prayer:

Loving Father, we thank You for Your Covenantal love poured out for us and the generations. We come to You afresh, laying aside all that may have replaced You. May Your Words be upon the doorway of our lives in every season, our lives a fragrance unto You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
