100 Days in the New Testament: The Athlete's ChallengeSample
Kingdom Athletes
Ready:
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:33 NLT
Set:
Welcome to taking the challenge in experiencing 100 days with Jesus! We are so excited to go with you on this journey and read the entire New Testament. We will be doing one weekly devotional each week for 15 weeks that will take a passage from the selected texts you are reading.
Just by being here, you’ve shown that you desire to seek first the Kingdom of God. There are plenty of things to seek in the world: fame, money, relationships, being the captain of your team and so on, but none of those things will fulfill you as Jesus will. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus is telling His followers that their best effort is to be directed toward God’s Kingdom, not any personal needs or athletic accolades.
We love being athletes, but seeking Christ and His Kingdom always comes first in our lives. Picking up this reading plan and starting this journey is a great start to seeking the Kingdom first in your life. We would encourage you to set a time that will work for you each day to seek Jesus because if you don’t have a plan, you plan to fail. Prioritizing Christ in your life means putting other priorities below that. Those might be: prioritizing sports over Christ, valuing other relationships above your relationship with Christ, or listening to what others say about you instead of believing what Christ says about you.
You will see “the Kingdom of God” or “the Kingdom of Heaven” many times in the book of Matthew. This is what Jesus is inviting you to take part in. Are you in?
Go:
- Is there anything that causes some hesitation to seeking Jesus with all you’ve got?
- Identify a couple of things that need less priority so Jesus can be your first priority.
Weekly Challenges:
- Determine a regular time to have time to read the Bible and connect with God in prayer.
- Invite a teammate or peer to take the challenge with you and hold you accountable.
Reading Plan:
Day 1 - Matthew 1-3
Day 2 - Matthew 4-6
Day 3 - Matthew 7-9
Day 4 - Matthew 10-11
Day 5 - Matthew 12-13
Day 6 - Matthew 14-15
Day 7 - Matthew 16-18
