DAY 3 OF 5

Ehud Kills King Left-Handed

After God’s people arrived in the promised land, they began to disobey God and embrace idols from surrounding nations. So God raised judges to lead Israel from its downward spiral.

One of these judges was Ehud. The Bible tells us that Ehud was a left-handed swordsman. In time, this unique quality would become a great strength.

Israel was being oppressed by Moab and their king, Eglon. Because Ehud was left-handed, he could sneak a sword past the guards and get face-to-face with Eglon. Imagine that was you. What would you have done? Go read the story to find out what happens between left-handed Ehud and King Eglon!

Ultimately, God raised up Ehud and other judges to show and share His mercy, justice, love, and faithfulness to His people. Over and over again, through their obedience to God, the judges reminded Israel of God’s character and called them to live like His kids. Jesus does the same for us.

God shows us His faithfulness and character through Jesus (John 14:9-11, Hebrews 1:1-3). When we see how Jesus lived, we see what God cares about, what He wants for us, and what it means for us to live as God’s kids.

Reflect:

  • What’s one thing you’ve learned about God from Jesus?

  • Who are the people in your life who help you see what it means to be part of God’s family?
