Jesus is Supreme

DAY 3 OF 7

One of the most confusing statements in the entire Bible is the second step in this three-step process to walking with Jesus. “Lord, how am I supposed to ‘take up my cross’ if I don’t have a cross like you did to take up?” You see, Jesus was not speaking about a literal, physical cross that He intends for us to carry around with us. Rather, He wants to paint an image in our heads of all that He endured while taking up His own. This cross was heavy, dirty, not meant to be carried by just one person, and on top of all that, Jesus didn’t even deserve to be carrying it. Nonetheless, He did, and that’s the key.

In this world, it is no secret we will face trouble and turmoil of all kinds. Jesus even says, “if the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first”. We have to be willing to walk a similar road as Jesus when following Him. It won’t always be pretty, it won’t always be rainbows and butterflies, but it will always be worth it.

You see, Jesus includes this key component in His three-step process to walking with Him because He knew many would be willing to “take up their cross” initially, but only a few would “carry it” to completion.

Have you set your cross down simply because it got too heavy? Jesus is calling you to pick it up and allow Him to help you carry it to completion as you follow Him closer day by day.
