Have you ever heard any weird phrases like, “it’s raining cats and dogs?" If you have never heard that phrase, here's what it means: it's raining really hard. 

It doesn’t make any sense! I have no idea why we use animals to talk about the weather.

It’s a saying that people use in the United States that probably confuses the rest of the world.

When Jesus talks about lamps and eyes in this passage, it is one of those cultural sayings that made sense to Jesus and the people he was talking to but does not make sense to us.

You see, a healthy eye was a way of referring to a generous person. A bad eye was a phrase used to talk about someone who was not so generous.

Jesus taught that it’s better to be generous than to hold tightly to everything you own. 

Followers of Jesus should be generous. So, your challenge for today is to be generous! 

Maybe you give your time and serve someone, or you donate money to an organization you believe in, or you are generous with your words by complimenting someone.
